Technical Overview

Austenitic in nature, the 904L stainless steel grade features a high level of alloying elements and low carbon, enabling it to resist corrosion in the most severe environments. The presence of molybdenum provides enhanced resistance against localized attacks such as pitting and crevice corrosion, while the added copper improves resistance to reducing acids like sulfuric acid. This alloy also offers moderate resistance to chloride-induced stress corrosion cracking, though it may still be vulnerable under extreme conditions. Its low carbon content significantly reduces the risk of intergranular corrosion during welding, maintaining structural integrity and mechanical properties even at elevated temperatures.
